Penza Swallow Brooch

The brooch was designed as a commemorative gift representing Penza. Its composition is built around the image of a swallow, used as a recognizable symbolic motif associated with the city. The piece combines the graceful silhouette of the bird, decorative botanical elements, and a contrast between warm gold surfaces and blackened details. Light and dark gemstones emphasize the flow of the form, add visual depth, and give the brooch a ceremonial yet restrained character.

Task

The task

The goal was to design a commemorative gift brooch built around a recognizable symbolic image associated with Penza. The piece needed to appear ceremonial, refined, and distinctive while preserving a sense of visual lightness. Special attention was given to the expressiveness of the swallow’s silhouette, the balance between decoration and restraint, and the integration of gold surfaces, blackening, and gemstone setting into a cohesive composition.

Production

Production notes

The piece is designed as a multi-component pin brooch with a highly detailed decorative front section. Its visual contrast is created through the combination of polished gold surfaces and blackened elements. The construction requires sufficient rigidity of the long pin, secure connections between decorative components, and precise stone setting in narrow areas. Key production considerations include clean execution of small details, assembly accuracy, and preservation of the composition’s visual lightness.
